Bay Ship & Yacht Puts Finishing
Touches on American Corps of Engineers’ Raccoon
Alameda,
CA, February 27, 2008 – Bay Ship & Yacht
announces
the soon-to-be-completed re-plating and re-engine of the
Army Corps of
Engineers’ Raccoon.
This
commercial
vessel underwent hull plating replacement around the propeller tunnels
and the
topsides up to 4’ above the waterline, installation of a new generator
and
shafts, and a full re-engine to optimize the Raccoon’s
performance.
Featuring
top-of-the-line fabrication and machine shops as well as a 1200 ton
Syncrolift
and 2800 ton drydocking capacity, Bay Ship & Yacht was uniquely
qualified
to perform this scope of work. Their team of certified welders and
master
craftsmen conducted the complex art of fabricating and installing the
compound
curvature plate forming for the propeller tunnels. This work demanded
strict
attention to detail to ensure perfect alignment with the existing
propeller
tunnels to maximize steering and propulsion performance.
All work was completed
on-site at Bay Ship & Yacht’s Alameda
waterfront location.
