Bay Ship & Yacht Repowers Los Angeles-Based Tugs for Crowley Maritime

Alameda Ca., March 31, 2010 – Bay Ship & Yacht successfully dry-docked the Crowley Tug Master today, lifting the vessel with its new Syncrolift® and transferring it by rail to a land based workstation where reengineing and extensive underwater machinery modifications and repairs were completed in a scheduled record time.  The Master was the fourth in a series of Crowley’s Harbor Class tugs undergoing re-powering at Bay Ship & Yacht.  These vessels were being repowered as part of the Port of Los Angeles’ clean air quality initiative with new Tier II main engines and generators.

Work included:

         - Removal and renewal of existing non-compliant equipment
         - Structural modifications
         - Electrical and piping systems and hull keel cooler modifications

With final delivery of the Master, all four vessels will also have completed extensive refurbishment of their Voith Propulsion drive units during their out of the water period at Bay Ship & Yacht.
