Feadship

Stately Feadship returned to cruising waters following maintenance
at Bay Ship & Yacht.

Alameda, CA, April 16, 2009 – When a 52-meter Feadship, one of only 200 in the world, needed a shipyard steeped in the knowledge of steel and aluminum repair, teak decking replacement and yacht-quality services and coatings applications, Bay Ship answered the call by providing the care and consideration demanded by superyacht owners and operators.

Bay Ship’s proven expertise in steel, aluminum and wooden ship building and repair, combined with their master wood craftsmen, modern Syncrolift® capabilities and in-house propeller, fabrication, and paint service shops, has made it the yard of choice in the super-yacht industry. Work on the 52-meter Feadship commenced in mid-December when the vessel was hauled out of San Francisco Bay using the newly installed Syncrolift® system and then carefully shifted by rails to its dry-berth workstation. The scope of work included:

         - Renewal of propeller shafts and seals
         - Tank inspections
         - Miscellaneous cleaning and repair
         - Renewal of teak decking
         - Minor structural modifications

Bay Propeller experts conducted a detailed cleaning, truing, analysis, and application of  low-friction coatings to prevent marine growth on the propellers thus improving vessel performance and speed. Concurrently, Bay Ship’s master wood and joinery workers repaired the intricate teak decking while theur engineers, fabricators and machinists ensured structural and machinery repairs met the stringent requirements for Lloyds certification. The boat returned to cruising waters a month after arrival with all work accomplished to the complete satisfaction of the Captain and crew. Recent reports from the Captain indicate a 20% reduction in fuel consumption attributed to the new hull coatings and propeller repairs.

Bay Ship's unique ability to provide teams of in-house experts in all facets of yacht repair to work in coordination, reduced downtime and increased attention to detail from stem to stern. This, coupled with being the only California shipyard with a modern Syncrolift® system, further solidifies Bay Ship & Yacht’s position as one of the West Coast’s premier shipyards providing a complete range of refit and repair services, expanded haul-out capacity, and unsurpassed customer service and satisfaction.
