Traditional shipbuilding and repair

Bay Ship & Yacht is America’s premier shipyard for traditional shipbuilding and repair. We have built and rebuilt more traditional tonnage in the last three decades, than any shipyard in the US, including:
  • The 2007 complete reconstruction of the 180’ three masted lumber schooner CA Thayer for the National Park Service.
  • Construction of the 120’ War of 1812 brig Niagara for the State of Pennsylvania, with Naval Architect Melbourne Smith.
  • New construction of the 96’ brig/storeship Globe, for the city of Sacramento, with Melbourne Smith.
  • Complete reconstruction of the 60’ scow schooner Alma for the National Park Service.
  • New construction of the California state tall ship, the 94’ schooner Californian, with designer Melbourne Smith.
  • Restoration of the 309’ full rigged ship Balclutha, for the National Park Service.
  • Major planking and caulking overhauls of six wooden MSO class minesweepers for the U.S. Navy.

The traditional shipbuilding crafts are all alive and well at Bay Ship & Yacht, including shipwrights, joiners, caulkers, riveters, riggers and sparmakers.
